This season, The Good Wifes costume designer Dan Lawson is exclusively giving InStyle tips for what to wear to work, inspired by the characters’ ensembles on the show.

What do you wear when you’re working out of the office? Try a jewel-toned blouse like The Good Wife’s Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies). Costume designer Dan Lawson chose an emerald green hammered silk satin blouse by Jason Wu for the TV lawyer when she was hanging at home. “This blouse is perfect to wear to conduct business at her home, always knowing that the law firm could call her into work at any time,” says Lawson. “It’s the height of elegance and femininity, with both a nod to Old Hollywood and a decidedly modern silhouette.”

Your tip: In order to feel professional wherever you are (even at home), “wear a standout blouse alone, rather than throwing a jacket on top,” suggests Lawson. “Pair it with wide-legged trousers to play up the vintage angle or a pencil skirt for a look of modern strength.” Just be sure to include sleeves, he advises. “Going sleeveless could cause you to feel vulnerable and exposed—exactly what you don’t want to feel when you're unexpectedly called into a boardroom or courtroom.”
