This season, The Good Wife’s costume designer Dan Lawson is exclusively giving InStyle readers tips for what to wear to work, inspired by the characters’ ensembles on the show.
She's back! We haven't seen a new episode of The Good Wife since January, so the return of Julianna Margulies playing power lawyer, woman-who-can-do-it-all Alicia Florrick was a complete joy/inspiration this weekend. Especially because she looked, as always, so good. That's thanks to costume designer Dan Lawson, who makes sure Florrick embodies the epitome of workwear chic week after week. One of our favorite looks in this episode was this zip front black and brown marled wool suit by Hobbs.
"What made this special was the knit fabric, which molded to her body and let you see her curves," Lawson told InStyle. "The texture created by the marled colors added an extra layer of interest, which is what makes it a great alternative to a flat wool suit." We also loved the way it shaped her, which Lawson worked on to fit her just right. "Some well-placed darts and seams coupled with the knit fabric accentuates all the right parts of the body," he said.
Your tip: When picking out your work look this week, "use knit fabric in your suits to mold a beautiful silhouette, enhancing your feminine and powerful presence," said Lawson. "A well-fitted suit can really set you apart from the crowd and keep you from looking boxy."
