It isn't really the Golden Globes until stars break out the retro waves, and the glamorous versions worn by Amy Adams, Gina Rodriguez, Jessica Chastain, and Allison Williams on the red carpet are the definition of Old Hollywood glamour. Though each star's gown gave off a different vibe tailored to their sartorial tastes, the graphic side-part and cascading loose curls proved to be a winning look for everyone involved. Try the look at home by following in Rodriguez's lead---her hairstylist Paul Norton began with damp strands, and worked in the Joico Power Whip ($17; loxabeauty.com) from her roots to ends before blow-drying with a boar bristle brush. Splitting the hair into 3 horizontal sections, Norton then applied a veil of the IronClad Thermal Protectant Spray ($17; loxabeauty.com) as a protective shield from the heat tools. "I then took sections beginning in the back at the bottom of the head, and with a medium-barrel curling iron, I curled two-inch sections under, and secured each section with alligator clips in order to cool and create the perfect wave" he says. "As I made my way to the top section, I gave her a deep side-part on the right, and curled all of the hair under and away from the face, securing them with large alligator hair pins."

With each curl set, Norton misted on Joico's Medium Styling and Finishing Spray ($16; loxabeauty.com) to lock in the texture as the ringlets cooled---apply liberally if you want a structured, Heidi Klum-esque effect, but go easy if you're channeling Leslie Mann's effortless texture. "Allowing the set to cool insures they reform as actual curls," he adds. Norton waited 15 minutes for the entire set to cool completely, then removed each clip working from the bottom up, tousling the style to break up the ringlets. A dollop of Joico's Creme Wax Texture ($16; loxabeauty.com) applied from root to end allowed him to shape the waves while imparting a glossy effect, and Norton then used large hair pins to set the left side in place as he brushed through the right side. Finally, Joico's Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray ($17; loxabeauty.com) was misted on all over for a long-lasting hold, and a touch of the K-Pak Color Therapy Dry Oil Spray ($18; loxabeauty.com) emphasized the mirror-like shine.
