Truthfully, my life didn't really come together until my eyebrows did. I might be exaggerating slightly, but once I figured out that the beginning of my brows should line up the bridge of my nose as opposed to the edge, things almost seemed to fall into place, and I embarked on my quest to find the perfect products to impart that super-subtle and natural ombre effect. Following disastrous, Sharpie-esque results with pomades and pencils, I stuck to brow powders, though it took a while for me to find the perfect gel to top off my handiwork. It was almost like a beauty-centric retelling of Golidlocks and the Three Bears—this gel dries too hard, this gel is too tinted, this gel isn't tinted enough, etc... Luckily, Glossier's Boy Brow ($16; glossier.com) proved to be the one formula that was just right.

If you aren't familiar with Glossier, it's pretty much the ultra-cool skin care brand you'd find stacked on the vanity of the trendiest girl you know. The range includes masks, hydrating balms, moisturizers, skin tints, and finally, brow products. Available in three shades, Glossier's Boy Brow is equipped with a tiny brush applicator, so you don't have to worry about being too heavy handed. The gel itself holds the perfect amount of tint, keeping all worries of a too-severe finish at bay. Personally, I love how I can still brush through my brows after the it has set without having the product flake all over my face thanks to the flexible hold formula, which was actually inspired by men's mustache wax. The finished effect can be described in three words: Jessica. Alba. Brows.
