The leading lady of Belle Gugu Mbatha-Raw may be new to the movie scene, but her latest hair and makeup choices have already left a lasting impression on the red carpet. And with Nick Barose, the same makeup artist responsible for Lupita Nyong’o’s unforgettable beauty moments, in the mix, we can only imagine how many must-try tips are on the way.
Take for example her elegant look at the New York premiere of Belle. There was the beautifully twisted updo (above), which was a work of art on its own, but the star’s soft smoky eye and glowing skin were just as worthy of a closer look. To prep, Barose used Juara’s Sweet Black Tea Ginger Mattefying Moisturizer ($49; juaraskincare.com) to keep shine at bay. “Even though the product is great at controlling oils, it still leaves the skin supple and creates the perfect canvas for makeup,” he tells us.
As for her eyes, Barose incorporated soft purple tones, using Tom Ford Eyes Colour Palette in Lavender Lust ($78; nordstrom.com), to complement the star’s gorgeous Lanvin gown and sun-kissed complexion. “To lift and elongate her eye shape, I applied two coats of Votre Vu’s Eiffel Power mascara ($24; votrevu.com), concentrating on the outer corners,” he adds.
Lastly, he settled on a pretty peach pout, using Chanel’s Glossimer in Wild Rose ($30; chanel.com) for a final touch of shimmer.
