When it comes to the costumes in the musical Gigi, elegance is a must.
And Vanessa Hudgens (pictured above), who plays the lead in the Broadway revival of the 1958 rom-com, knows this. "I love this character so much," she says. "I think the story is so relevant. Gigi's a very strong, powerful young woman who knows who she is."
Helping Gigi stand out for this installment? More than a few Swarovski crystals. "Crystals add dimension and that certain special touch that makes everything look so glamorous and beautiful," says Hudgens.
The show tells the story of a young Parisian woman, Gigi (first played on film by Leslie Caron), who is searching for her true self, and finds love along the way. It's making a return to the stage for the first time in 40 years, and this time, the costumes will be a huge part of telling the story. "Through the course of the musical there is a shift in the fashion of the time and the silhouette changes from old-fashioned to a more modern silhouette," costume designer Catherine Zuber says of the pieces.
