Cue the shadow baby jokes! Carice van Houten may have given birth to a murderous shadow as Melisandre on Game of Thrones, but the actress is expecting a very real child off-screen. Houten and her partner Guy Pearce are expecting their first child, People reports.
The 39-year-old actress is currently starring in the film, Race, about Jesse Owens’s historic track wins in the 1936 Olympics. Pearce, 48, who is best known for the 2000 film Memento, plays F. Scott Fitzgerald in the film, Genius, out this summer.
It’s clear these soon-to-be parents have a great sense of humor. Houten confirmed her rumored pregnancy with a hilarious Game of Thrones reference.
Ok. I'm ready for your shadowbaby jokes.— Carice van Houten (@caricevhouten) March 19, 2016
Her baby daddy quickly jumped on the bandwagon, joking that the prospect of a shadow baby could change his mind about fatherhood.
Nothing like the prospect of a shadowbaby to change your mind about becoming a Father !! https://t.co/JRjL6YISbl— Guy Pearce (@TheGuyPearce) March 19, 2016
It’s anyone’s guess as to how producers will approach her pregnancy during filming. Another shadow baby could be on the way for The Red Woman, but if a baby isn’t in the cards for her character, her nude scenes would become far less frequent and her witchy dresses even flowier. That is, if Melisandre lives to see another season.
