It’s a sad day for bargain hunters—Filene’s Basement announced it is filing for bankruptcy and will liquidate/close all stores by early 2012. The decision “was not a step we took lightly,” wrote CEO Marcy Syms in a letter on filenesbasement.com. However, there is a silver lining—once the court approves the company’s bankruptcy, “going out of business” sales will run through the end of the year, and some will run longer. So, get in your last shopping moments at the store this holiday season. Because, after 102 years in the business, it won’t be back. Visit filenesbasement.com for store locations.
