Here is some exciting news for Star Wars fans: the saga is getting its first-ever own stand-alone film titled Rogue One. Disney announced the news today, where they revealed that style star and Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones would star in the flick.
Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz, and will explore "the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga." The film is expected to start shooting in London this summer and is set to be released on Dec. 16, 2016.
But that's not all: Aside from Rogue One, the studio confirmed that Rian Johnson will write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII (in theaters May 26, 2017), which follows the saga after the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens that hits theaters later this year on Dec. 18.
