All hail the queen—and her unmatched sense of style. Tomorrow night, The Royals returns for Season 2, and we can’t wait for Elizabeth Hurley’s character, Queen Helena, to get back to ruling the monarchy on the salacious E! drama. Just don’t expect the manipulative queen to tone down her look, despite the fact that she’s still mourning the death of her husband and the end of her years-long affair. “On a show like this, the clothes become quite significant,” Hurley told InStyle earlier this week when we chatted with her about what to expect from the new season. “They really need to be right when we’re playing a character so far removed from our own.”
Part of nailing the look involves ignoring traditional fashion rules. “I wear a lot of diamonds, but in real life in England, it’s actually rather off to wear diamonds in daylight,” she said. Of course, that doesn’t stop her from decking herself out in sparklers in the middle of the afternoon for the show. “My queen doesn’t have a problem with it," Hurley said cheekily.
Even after she layers on a ton of dazzling jewels, the rest of Hurley’s wardrobe still manages to stand out. “This season, I end up wearing a lot of British designers,” she said. “There are a lot of fabulous Victoria Beckham dresses, and then I have the big rocks, the big hair, and the shoes.” And that’s all it takes for Hurley to get into character. “We have absolutely everything to make us feel like the wealthiest, most powerful and influential family in the world,” she said.
The Royals airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on E!
