First stop, Denver! On Tuesday Disney announced that a musical adaptation of Disney's runaway animated hit, Frozen, would open on Broadway in 2018. But on Thursday it was revealed that before landing in the Big Apple, the production will make its world premiere in Denver in August 2017.
"We're proud to announce that #Denver will be the first to see @FrozenBroadway before it makes its Broadway debut." Denver Center for the Performing Arts tweeted.
According to Entertainment Weekly, pre-Broadway debuts in Colorado aren't something new for Disney. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts previously hosted the debut of its 2007 production of The Little Mermaid. So, when it comes to being first, New Yorkers will just have to let it go.
Composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who won best original song Oscars for the movie's "Let It Go," are behind the Broadway show, as well as Tony Award-winning set and costume, and lighting designers, respectively, Bob Crowley and Natasha Katz. Peter Darling, who has signed on for choreography, won a Tony for Billy Elliot and is currently with the hit show Matilda.
