Simon Doonan, the creative ambassador for Barneys New York, is one of fashion's most outspoken (and hilarious) voices. (Doonan is so funny that Alexander Wang even chose him to star in his most recent, very tongue-in-cheek ad campaign.) He has put his quick wit to the white page in the form of several books, like Gay Men Don't Get Fat, and he recently told InStyle.com that his next book, The Asylum, will be released this September. "I've been privileged to be in fashion from when it was a tiny little thing that was just a prerogative of rich women to when it became the insane, global obsession that it is today," Doonan told InStyle.com at Barneys' Celebration of 60 Years of Chloé. "The book has humorous anecdotes, hopefully, from my 40 years in fashion. It became bigger than anyone could have ever predicted. You don’t know how little it was! I mean, it was a very minor thing. Fashion Week was like a trade show." How things have changed—keep an eye on penguingroup.com to find out more about The Asylum, and pick up a copy when it comes out September 3.
