David Beckham has always shown his love and appreciation for his fans, and he did the same after his longtime pal Kirsty Howard passed away from a rare illness.
Over the weekend, the star took to Instagram to express his condolences by sharing with his followers a throwback photo from what appears to be his days as a soccer player. The courageous lady posed next to him with the biggest smile across her face. Beckham typed under the post, "Words cannot describe how amazing this young lady has been over the years .. Kirsty has been defying doctors for many years and whilst doing that she has been raising millions of pounds for terminally ill children."
The 40-year-old went on to explain how they became friends, "I met Kirsty in 2002 when she became the nations and my good luck charm for the game against Greece, we also met the queen together in Manchester so you could say we have spent some amazing moments together over the years and it was an inspiration to meet such a brave young lady with so much drive for helping others."
The BBC reports that Howard was given only two weeks to live at the age of 4, but she surpassed expectation and courageously battled her rare heart defect until the age of 20. Beckham summed up the tribute by writing, "My love and thoughts go to Kirsty's parents and sisters as this inspirational young lady will be missed ... My heart and love goes to Kirsty for letting me be a small part of your world over the years.. Rest in peace."
