Orange Is the New Black's Dascha Polanco stepped out Sunday at the fourth annual People en Español festival in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The actress, who arrived looking gorgeous, participated in a Latinos Breaking Barriers panel Sunday afternoon in New York.
"[Celebrating Hispanic heritage] is important because this is who I am. This is where I am from," Polanco told InStyle. "To get the support from my people, there is something magical about it. At one point, I think that Latinos—as a whole—were either one kind or very distinguished. And now, there is a moment of uniting with one another and you see a lot more fusions of South Americans and Central Americans, and so forth."
The actress, who was wearing a black Trina Turk jumpsuit and MARSKINryyppy by Nicole Brundage shoes (below), glowed as she talked about her most recent creative endeavors and life as a newly single woman. "I am excited in my own life about creating now. I am single. So, I got rid of a lot of negativity in my life," Polanco said. "And, I have just been able to focus more on my work and broaden my horizons."
Up next for the actress? Polanco and the rest of the Orange Is the New Black crew are still working on season 4 of the show, although her lips were sealed about specifics (sigh.) In addition, fans of the actress can catch her performance in the upcoming movie Joy. The biographical film, which is set to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2015, features Polanco alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Édgar Ramírez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen.
Now that she's cemented her spot among Hollywood's A-list TV stars, we can't wait to see her take on more big-screen acting roles. In addition to her role in Joy, the actress said she is excited for the 2016 release of The Perfect Match, which features Polanco and Terrance Jenkins.
