Dakota Fanning might have tasted fame before she'd even left grade school, but a very grown-up new role playing a pregnant 20-something proves once and for all that she's left her child-star days far behind. "I've never been expecting a child, or been married ... but I thought it would be a challenge as an actor to portray that," Fanning told InStyle before the premiere of Franny at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Over the film's six-week production schedule, the starlet says she was surprised by how she felt wearing a silicone-filled prosthetic belly. "It was really heavy and really affected the way I walked and the way I sat down, and I weirdly got attached to the feeling," she said. "It was really bizarre and I loved it. I loved it so much. That was kind of weird when it was over and done with. It felt really normal."
Yes, Fanning may have enjoyed sporting a fake baby bump, but for now the 21-year-old's focus seems to be on her career. "It's important to find roles in particular that are complex and challenging and present women as they are in real life, and not just as a glamorized version," she said. "I'd love to direct one day in the future. That's something that I'm excited about down the line."
