As soon as winter rolls around, we develop an inexplicable desire to make everything a cozier version of itself. This even applies to our favorite cocktails, like the Negroni. Bartender Naren Young of recently re-vamped N.Y.C. Italian eatery Dante has done just that by putting a piquant chocolate spin on the classic Italian cocktail, declaring the beverage the magnum opus of his career. ¾ oz Campari ($30; klwines.com)
¾ oz Cinzano Rosso ($13; winefolder.com)
¼ oz gin
¼ oz White Crème de Cacao ($13; internationalwineshop.com)
3 dashes chocolate bitters
3 dashes chili powder for garnish
Valrhona chocolate shavings for garnish
Orange peel twists for garnish
1. Stir together the Campari, Cinzano Rosso, gin, White Crème de Cacao, and chocolate bitters, and strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
2. Garnish with chili powder, an orange twist, and grated Valrhona chocolate.
