The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the nominees and honorees for its annual Fashion Awards last night at CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg's design studio. Von Furstenberg, along with Swarovski vice president Nadja Swarovski, named the honorees, which included Michael Kors (Lifetime Achievement Award), Iman (Fashion Icon Award) and Alexander McQueen (Special Tribute Award). Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Alexander Wang were nominated for Womenswear Designer of the Year while the Swarovski Award for Womenswear nominees, an honor for emerging talent, singled out Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra. "I'm dumbfounded because I wasn't expecting this at all," Gurung told us. "I always feel like I'm the product of the love [I have] for the fashion industry and tonight seals the deal for me." For Wu, who was still reeling from witnessing Michelle Obama induct his inaugural gown into the Smithsonian, the nomination felt extra special since it came from his fellow designers. "It's the highest form of flattery because it's from people in our line of work—designers for designers," he said. Check cfda.com for a full list of this year's nominees and honorees.
