Of all the red carpet moments of 2014, none stunned onlookers—or captivated the Twittersphere—quite as much as Lupita Nyong'o's ensembles. The then-virtually unknown, Yale-educated actress made an awards season splash akin to that of Cher in Bob Mackie, or Celine Dion's famous backwards tuxedo (a clever twist on androgynous dressing) when she traipsed in front of a flood of paparazzi in her red Ralph Lauren cape dress, and then weeks later, memorably in a custom-made Prada gown in her very own hue (Nairobi blue, in case you forgot).
And for the above sartorial grand slams, the 12 Years a Slave breakout star has her risk-taking stylist, Micaela Erlanger, to thank in spades. We recently bumped into the secret style weapon, whose client list also includes Olivia Munn and Michelle Dockery, at a dinner to celebrate Dannijo's spring collection, and we'd be remiss if we didn't ask her what she has in store for Nyong'o's upcoming slew of red carpet events. As it turns out, she's taking a cue from her successful year prior. "I'm pulling a lot of unexpected shapes and silhouettes," she told us, while remaining firmly tight-lipped on further details. Why mess with a good thing?
