Ombre hair color has some serious staying power! Stars like Olivia Wilde and Kate Beckinsale love the dark to blond gradient and there's a reason why it hasn't been "fading" away in the spotlight. "It is popular with brunettes because it allows you to go lighter without washing you out," said celebrity colorist Kyle White, who works with Mariah Carey. When trying the look, consider colors carefully. "You want to avoid a defined line between the shades—to me, that's actually two-toned, not ombre," he said. "The effect is supposed to be a gradation of color without a heavy line." To avoid any shade-shiftng mishaps, be sure to print out a picture of the effect you want to achieve so your hairstylist can really see what you're going for.
