It was a reunion for the cast of 12 Years a Slave at the 51st New York Film Festival: Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Lupita Nyong'o, Alfre Woodard, and Michael Fassbender all stepped out to celebrate the premiere of their historical drama based on the true story of Solomon Northup (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free married black man who was abducted by slave traders and sold into slavery. The Steve McQueen-directed film previously screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it picked up the People's Choice Award and introduced Nyong'o as a new rising star. "Everything in that movie gives me a great sense of pride," she said to InStyle. "It was actually a very joyful and loving set...we all recognized that we were working on something really powerful and important, and vital.” The film also stars Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti, and opens in theaters on October 18th.
