Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, as they say, yet for some reason, we continue to settle for a single banana or measly handful of granola before jetting off to work. These lackluster meals result in mid-morning hunger pains and lack of energy, making it difficult to focus on anything until lunchtime. So, when we penned our 2016 resolutions a few weeks ago, we promised ourselves that we were finally going to do breakfast right.
The first step: find a recipe. Sure, you could spend your precious evening hours poring over food blogs and cookbooks—or you could download BigOven (free on iTunes and Google Play), an app that functions like a recipe Rolodex. In addition to the more than 350,000 (!) recipes, the app also functions as a grocery list and menu planner. Under its “search” function is an option to select your course: simply choose “breakfast,” and if you’d like, specify what ingredients to include or exclude (this is excellent if you don’t have time to go to the grocery store and need to work with what’s on hand). Users also have the option of adding their own recipes or clipping them from the web. Time to say goodbye to on-the-fly breakfasts.
