Last week Britsh heartthrob Benedict Cumberbatch announced that he was engaged to longtime girlfriend Sophie Hunter via a newspaper ad, and last night at a Chanel-hosted screening of his upcoming film The Imitation Game, the actor told InStyle why he broke the good news the old-fashioned way.
"I think people in Britain were rather happy about the way we announced it. That’s what I would have done if I wasn’t in the position that I’m lucky enough be in as an actor in the public eye. So I deserve some normality," says Cumberbatch, who plays mathematician, cryptanalyst, and war hero Alan Turing engaged to Joan Clarke (played by Keira Knightley) in the World War II era move. "It wasn't quite like it was in the film, but it was a wonderful moment."
Cumberbatch looked dapper on the red carpet at the DGA Theatre in Los Angeles wearing head-to-toe Spencer Hart, and revealed that he has no trouble getting dressed up for events. "Men are quite spoiled. Suits are the one area of fashion where there are a lot of choices for men. Suits are great!"
Look for The Imitation Game when it hits theaters Nov. 28.
