The Oscars are this Sunday, and if you're anything like us, you've left that appetizer you're supposed to bring to your friend's viewing party to the last-minute. Instead of picking up something already prepared from the grocery store, try this easy app idea that uses something you likely already have sitting in your fridge: bacon.
Courtesy of our friends at Food & Wine, this three-ingredient recipe for Candy Bacon yields a crispy, sweet, and salty snack that is the ultimate cocktail party hors d'oeuvre. Even better, you can prepare this the morning-of and store at room temperature before heading out. Guests are guaranteed to be impressed.
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons chile powder
20 slices of thick-cut bacon (1 1/2 lbs)
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line two rimmed baking sheets with foil.
2. In a small bow, whisk the brown sugar with the chile powder.
3. Arrange the bacon strips on the foil and coat the tops with the chile sugar. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until caramelized and almost crisp.
4. Transfer the bacon to a rack set over a sheet of foil to cool completely; serve.
