We're gushing over mama-to-be Anne Hathaway's adorable maternity wardrobe. Whether she's rocking cute minis or menswear inspired separates, the actress looks polished, comfy, and positively glowing. We asked her stylist, the brilliant Penny Lovell, to spill her secrets for crafting a wardrobe that will take you through the third trimester. "I don't believe in buying a whole new wardrobe while you're expecting," she says. "Invest in a few staples and learn how to style them." Soon-to-be-mommies, take notes and get ready to put your best belly forward.
Choose Pleated Pants
Front-pleated pants from Joie, Helmut Lang, and 3.1 Phillip Lim are nice alternatives to maternity styles because they have waistbands that can sit below your growing belly. "These can generally take you quite far into your pregnancy, depending on how you develop," says Lovell. "You can get them in different materials, like wool and silk."
Consider Your Skirt Length
"This is the most important thing to remember," says Lovell. As your belly grows, the hemlines on your dresses and skirts will start to rise up higher in the front. "Buy pieces that are a bit longer than you would ordinarily wear them to compensate. If you still like them after the baby arrives, you can simply have them hemmed."
Embrace Shirt Dresses
"I love a shirtdress, and Isabel Marant makes some good ones," says Lovell. "These styles give you a lot of coverage because they aren't too tight, but they look very flattering on top. They come in handy after your baby arrives, too, because you can easily unbutton to breastfeed."
