I admit that I look at my social media when I'm killing time like on a plane and such. It's just less embarrassing getting caught on Twitter than getting caught playing Candy Crush. I try to follow a variety of different kinds of accounts. If you only follow people in one industry, you keep getting the same information, five minutes apart. For a long time I was mostly following film bloggers and comedians, but I'm trying to follow different kinds of tweeters. I definitely recommend that.
One account I follow is Longreads. Obviously Twitter is great for certain information, but when you really want to kill some time, Longreads (@Longreads) is perfect because it links to amazing articles that'll take up a good 20 minutes of your life. True, the fact that we're calling those long reads in this day and age is kind of a bummer, but it's perfect for when you find yourself in a situation where you're texting people like, "I'm just texting you to look like I'm busy." I would definitely say checking out what Longreads has to offer.
I recently started following Diane Keaton (@Diane_Keaton), and Bette Midler (@BetteMidler), and Susan Sarandon (@SusanSarandon)—women who are old enough that they say whatever they want. That is amazing. Bette Midler is especially wonderful. She's never self-centered, but it's awesome to see.
I also like to follow a bunch of British comedians and personalities like Jonathan Ross (@wossy) and Dermot O'Leary (@radioleary). They are great when you have insomnia and you are looking at your feed in the middle of the night which is during the day over there. You also have to follow Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) or you just aren't living. His tweets are the most positive, inspiring things.
On Instagram I like to make sure I have a mix: a foodie, a home decorator blogger, some kittens. Here's a peek at some of my favorites:
Domaine Home @domainehomeFor home decor inspiration.
Reese Witherspoon @reesewitherspoonReese is just killing it on Instagram.
The Daily Kitten @dailydoseofkittensI don't follow a lot of animals, but I like at least one kitten in my feed.
Kelly Eastwood @thelondonchatterShe's a great London blogger.
Kale & Caramel @kaleandcaramelPretty pictures of food.
Linda Hallberg @lindahallbergsShe's an amazing Swedish makeup artist.
Kate Spade New York @katespadenyAnd Kate Spade, of course!
