Richie, who polished things off with smoldering eye makeup, let her all-white ensemble take center stage with an elegant, low-slung bun. If you're working with colored-treated strands like the star take note: "I started on Nicole's damp hair, spraying Leonor Greyl Tonique Hydratant ($43; leonorgreyl.com) throughout to protect her hair health and color before the stress of a blowout,” Russell tells InStyle on how he prepped for the look. For his next step, he applied R + Co Park Avenue Blowout Balm ($28; randco.com) all over Richie’s head before blow-drying her hair straight with a ceramic round brush.

Once Richie's hair was dry, Russell created a deep part on the left side of her head, adding a dab of Leonor Greyl À l'Hibiscus Styling Gel ($35; nordstrom.com) for an ultra-sleek finish. “I then pulled the hair back tight and fastened it low with a bungee tie, twisting the ponytail and wrapping into a sleek bun,” he says. Finally, a spritz of Serge Normant's Dry Oil Finishing Spray ($24; nordstrom.com) added the perfect amount of shine.RELATED: How to Get Nicole Richie’s Style, Straight from the Star Herself
