There’s a part of us that will always link Adam Brody to Seth Cohen, his adorable Death Cab for Cutie-loving character on The OC. But if you’ve already watched (and re-watched) all of the teen soap’s best episodes this summer on Hulu, there is a brand new way to get your streaming fix of Brody.
Starting today, Sept. 6, the 36-year-old actor is starring in StartUp, a scripted series with 10 episodes premiering on Crackle (a streaming network best known for giving us Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee). And its sexy Miami set is just about as far away from the McMansions of Orange County as you can get.
The series centers around the launch of GenCoin, an unregulated digital currency that has the potential to change the world and make major waves in the tech space as the better Bitcoin. Brody plays Nick Talman, a whip-smart financier-turned-entrepreneur, who finds himself in trouble with an FBI agent (Martin Freeman) after investing in GenCoin and joining forces with two unlikely partners: tech mastermind Izzy Morales (Otmara Marrero) and Ronald Dacey (Edi Gathegi), a Haitian gang leader. Complicating things further is Nick's relationship with his crook of a dad (he's no Sandy Cohen), who disappears and leaves Nick with heaps of illegal cash that he needs to hide in his GenCoin investment.
Sure, there's more sex, drugs, and tech talk than would ever be allowed in the Cohen household, but it’s fun to see Brody onscreen in a completely new way. And the fast-paced drama delivers—we were hooked by episode two.
