Whether you've already binged on the entire just-released fourth season of Netflix's House of Cards or you're slow rolling your way through the drama, one thing is for certain: Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood, looks incredible on screen and off. We caught up with stylist Kemal Harris, who styles Wright for red carpet events and designs costumes for her character on the show. "This character is a great example of a women in her late 40s who dresses perfectly for the office and looks incredible every day," says Kemal. "It's all about finding the perfect fit." Here's how to nail it.
Identify Your Comfort Zone
According to Harris, it's never a wise sartorial choice to hide your body, but it is crucial to feel comfortable in the pieces you're wearing on a day-to-day basis. If you're a pants person, don't try to force a dress or a skirt. "Instead just find a pair of trousers you love that fit you well in the waist area," says Harris.
Trust Your Tailor
The key to looking chic in your 40s and beyond is having your go-to pieces altered so that they look like they were made for your body. "If you prefer wearing pants, look for a pair that works well in the tummy area and then ask your tailor to take in the crotch so that there's no sagging fabric and take up the length so that there's no extra material dragging on the floor," says Harris.
Opt for Classics
When it doubt, the one look that you can never go wrong with, regardless of your age, is a clean, well-cut trouser or skirt and jacket. "Michael Kors is great for pants and jackets," says Harris. "British designers, like Alexander McQueen and Burberry are also on point. Their dresses always seem to hit at exactly the right length. Stella McCartney does beautiful jackets that you can never go wrong with."
