If a major French fashion house invited you to sip champagne at a concert inside one of the world’s most recognized museums, would you say yes?

Kate Mara sure did on Wednesday in New York, where the 34-year-old actress stepped inside the Guggenheim for its annual International Gala Pre-Party, hosted by Dior. It sounds fancy, and that’s because it is.

Each year, friends of the museum (aka donors, artists, collectors, celebrities, models) wait ‘til the sun goes down and hop inside Frank Lloyd Wright’s swirling building to honor someone—this year it was artist Cai Guo-Qiang, UBS, and former President of Guggenheim Board of Trustees Jennifer Blei Stockman—and basically just have a good time. The next day, they host a super chic black-tie gala.

For the occasion, Mara of course wore Dior and looked magnificent in a black sheer cocktail dress covered in rainbow-colored crystals. In addition, Michelle Monaghan, Aurora James, and Rebecca Hall all stopped by, while the sisters of Haim took the stage for a nightcap performance.

"I think that supporting artists is important because art speaks about our time and so it’s very important to support the museum and all these exhibitions,” Dior Artistic Director Maria Grazia Chiuri told InStyle inside the event.

And support they did.
