Ruffles, aka one of spring's biggest (and sweetest) fashion trends, earned a moment at the 2016 Oscars. But unlike the runway, in which ready-to-wear pieces were treated with larger-than-life ruffles, designers took a rather quiet approach with the frilly detailing on the red carpet, with subtle flourishes here and there.

Reese Witherspoon graced the red carpet in a strapless aubergine Oscar de la Renta design that boasted a corseted bodice trimmed with faint ruffles along the sweetheart neckline. Olivia Wilde brought sexy back in her pale navel-plunging Valentino Haute Couture creation that, when she turned, showed off an open back framed by pleated ruffles.

And Oscars front-runner (aka the hottest star at the Oscars) Brie Larson wore a custom gown designed by the hottest designer in town—Alessandro Michele for Gucci. She stunned in a vibrant cobalt blue design strewn with cascading ruffles from the waist all the way down the train.
