Last night stars turned it out on the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet, making a stylish spectacle out of the pre-Oscars award show. Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, and Julianne Moore all delivered buzz-inducing looks that ranged from plunging necklines to menswear-inspired jumpsuits, and a burst of rainbow colors hit the carpet, including Sofia Vergara in red Donna Karan Atelier, Julianna Margulies in blue Giambattista Valli haute couture, and Uzo Aduba in a yellow Angel Sanchez number. But beyond these looks, other strong trends surfaced from the red carpet ensembles.
One of the top contenders, which comes as a pleasant surprise, was the off-the-shoulder neckline. Emilia Clarke (above, left) arrived in a striking off-the-shoulder column courtesy of Donna Karan Atelier, which drew attention to her fierce Cartier panther bracelet. For the other two looks, we can thank one designer: Alexander Wang of Balenciaga. Both Felicity Jones (above, center) and Naomi Watts (above, right) worked Balenciaga creations. Jones, who never fails to impress the fashion crowed, wowed in a demure petal-pink column with an architectural off-the-shoulder neckline. Watts’ style was a little more subtle and a lot more sexy. The ultra-thin textured off-the-shoulder band added dimension to her ladylike look while her side-swept hair played up the drama.
A number of statuesque white columns also hit the red carpet: Viola Davis stunned in an optic-white Max Mara column with a key hole halter-top neckline (above, left), Maggie Gyllenhaal worked a long-sleeved gown with a sheer bodice panel by Thakoon (above, center), a trendy New York-based designer, and Reese Witherspoon showed off her tiny svelte frame in a one-shouldered number by Giorgio Armani (above, right).
Shades of Purple
The red carpet was filled with shades of purple ranging from lavender to plum. A pregnant Keira Knightley (above, left) chose a dark purple peplum gown with eyelet detail by Erdem for her walk down the red carpet while Camila Alves (above, right) also wore a moody shade, opting for a plush velvet mermaid style by Donna Karan Atelier complete with a dramatic sash. On the other end of the spectrum, Amanda Peet (above, center), who gave birth to her third child just six weeks ago, showed up in a floatly J. Mendel column with black colorblock detailing.
Lastly, prints popped up in pastel washes and bold black-and-white combos. Natalie Dormer (above left), of Game of Thrones, took a sweet approach to sporting a print, choosing a pastel gown with a floral-printed bodice by Naeem Khan. Lupita Nyong’o went a bit bolder in a double-printed number stamped with stripes and bright, multi-colored buds. Rashida Jones’s print was more graphic. The actress opted for a black-and-white floral column with a turquoise-trimmed neckline by Emanuel Ungaro.
