“Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?”
Well, this winter, the answer will be billboards, magazines, and Burberry’s social media sites since Romeo Beckham has been signed as the face of the British brand’s holiday advertising campaign.
This is actually the second Burberry campaign for Victoria and David Beckham’s 12-year-old son, and when Romeo made his debut in the brand's spring 2013 campaign at age 10, Burberry designer and CEO Christopher Bailey described him as a “joy to work with.” Young Romeo obviously has photogeneity in his DNA and brought a sophisticated swagger to a classic Bailey-designed trench coat and checked cashmere scarf in the first image from the holiday ad campaign (above). He joins stars such as Emma Watson (who has appeared in her own Burberry ads), Hailee Steinfeld, Dakota and Elle Fanning, and Chloë Grace Moretz in the ranks of people who became fashion darlings before they were old enough to drive.
Whether other boys his age are prepared to abandon their jeans, sneakers, and T-shirts for the designer label remains an open question, but there will no doubt be plenty of 12-year-old girls ready to play Juliet to this Romeo.
