The cast of High School Musical attended their 10-year reunion over the weekend. How time flies! But it wasn't all reminiscing and gossip. Five members of the original cast (Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman) reunited to film an anniversary telecast to mark the decade that's passed since the release of the Disney hit that launched their careers—and still has us singing. The group taped segments that will air during a special telecast of High School Musical on Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel.
Zac Efron, who played the movie's leading man, was noticeably absent from the gathering. But don't despair: The busy actor will appear in a separate pre-taped message during the special.
The cast, many of whom have remained close over the years, documented the reunion with a flurry of Instagram posts. "What a crazy morning!" Grabeel captioned a photo of East High School's gym decked out in Wildcats gear. "Hanging after 10 years with @corbinbleu @ashleytisdale @_moniquecoleman and @VanessaHudgens."
Grabeel also posted a group selfie of the cast. "#Wildcats in the house! So much #Love," he wrong alongside the photo. "@_moniquecoleman @corbinbleu @ashleytisdale @VanessaHudgens #10years"
"Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago," Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement. "It's their optimism, their dedication, and their extraordinary talent—as a group—that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon. Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere—express yourself, believe in yourself and always follow your dreams."
