Who doesn't have fond childhood memories of running after the neighborhood ice cream truck every summer? Even as adults, we're brought back to the same excitement each time we hear that iconic jingle coming around the block.
For those of us who haven't hailed an ice cream truck since our younger years, we'll have another chance this Friday, August 11, with a modern truck of sorts that can be ordered through the Uber app. The ride-sharing and food delivery service is celebrating its 6th annual Uber Ice Cream Day, but this year, they're doing things a little differently and teaming up with McDonald's to offer free ice cream. The best part is that it's not a one-day thing, and ice cream lovers will be able to enjoy a free cone every Friday until the first day of fall on Sept. 22.
Like we mentioned before, this is an ice cream truck experience for 2017, so it's all done through your smartphone. This is how it works: go into the Uber app, select UberICECREAM, and click request. If you are matched with a truck, it will come directly to you and provide free ice cream cones for up to 5 people. And it gets even better, because each person will also receive a free, limited-edition silicone cone that can be refilled for free on the following six Fridays to come. Simply take your reusable cone to any McDonald's location in participating cities, which include Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Boston, Miami, Toronto, Seattle, Atlanta, and Dallas.
