Greta Garbo, Princess Margaret and Julia Roberts have all stayed at this 16th-century palace opulently appointed with checkerboard marble floors, gilded ceilings and Murano glass fixtures. For lovely accommodations at a lower cost, try the Pensione Accademia (doubles from $169 to $240; Dorsoduro 1058, 011-39-041-523-7846), a quiet retreat with two large gardens and rooms filled with antiques.
