From gondolas to Murano glassware, prosecco to Tintoretto, our guide to planning an inspired honeymoon on the Grand Canal from Spring 2005
What to See and Do
View the painted masterpieces on the ceiling of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (San Polo 3054, 011-39-041-523-4864), site of some of Tintoretto's finest work. Take one of the hand mirrors offered to put under your nose for viewingit will literally save your neck. Brave the crowds to marvel at the mosaics in the Basilica di San Marco too. Ride vaporetto No. 1 from the train station to the Lido, a roughly seven-mile-long island with its own sandy beach. This trip is especially magical at sunset: Nab seats near the front, and bring a bottle of prosecco (a type of Italian sparkling wine).Left: A standard 50-minute gondola ride costs $95 to $150.
