"A couple who works with me to design a diamond engagement ring is interested in every detail: the engraving, filigree and choice of metal—yellow, rose gold or platinum," says L.A. designer Michael Beaudry, who's known for his lavishly ornate work. After a consultation Beaudry creates sketches for the couple's approval, then finalizes the ring; clients also receive a watercolor of the piece. Time: six to eight weeks. Starting price: $22,000.
