Round
Far and away the most popular diamond shape for engagement rings, the round brilliant was created by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919. It has 58 facets, which cause light to bounce from the bottom of the diamond back through the crown. (Previously, round stones lost light through the bottom.) The shape is versatile, looking modern in simple settings, while blending harmoniously with the style of more elaborate rings.
