Most diamonds have a flat top with facets on the edges and bottom, but a rose-cut diamond is domed and covered with facets. The pretty floral shape first emerged during the 15th century in India. It had long been out of style but began to blossom again in engagement rings around 2000. Carat for carat, this unique look, which casts a mellow, soft light, is typically less expensive than other shapes.
