Bold Bangs

Christina Ricci

On the fringe no more, bangs are scoring big with celebrity trend-setters. Star stylist Hallie Bowman, who cut Liv Tyler's locks for her role in the upcoming film Smother, says the actress "wanted something a little different and sweet." Bowman was inspired by geometric Vidal Sassoon cuts from the sixties: "We really liked a heavy bang and blunt bottom—no layers." The style appears to shorten a long face, like Tyler's, but can overwhelm a round or wide face. Just don't be too cautious. "I feel like if you're going to do it, do it with gusto," says Bowman. "No wimpy bangs."
