Charla Lawhon was named Managing Editor of InStyle on April 1, 2002. Previously, she was executive editor of the magazine from December 1998 and deputy editor from 1994. Ms. Lawhon was part of the original team of editors during InStyle's 1993 test period at Time Inc.

Prior to joining InStyle, Lawhon had been managing editor of Metropolitan Home, a position she held until the magazine's sale in late 1992. In addition to her duties at Metropolitan Home, in 1990 she was named editorial services director for Meredith Design Group, comprising Metropolitan Home, Traditional Home and Country Home magazines. Lawhon started her journalism career in Des Moines, Iowa, at Apartment Life magazine, Metropolitan Home's predecessor. During her tenure with the magazine, she worked in virtually every editorial department. Lawhon is also the author of Heartland Baking, published by Dell Books, and was a faculty member of 1992's Stanford Professional Publishing Course. Lawhon is a graduate of Drake University and resides in New York City.
