Emcee Simon Doonan had fun with the Visionaries theme, at one point concocting a story about dropping acid with the CEO of Neiman Marcus. The imaginative master of ceremonies received a berry-bedecked slice of cake in honor of his birthday—no hallucinogens necessary. The subject on everyone’s lips was, of course, fashion. “I go with whatever I think I’m going to feel comfortable in and what suits the mood,” Mischa Barton said of her Bebe frock. Emmy Rossum, who looked regal in Badgley Mischka, mused upon Princess Diana: “She had a beauty that emanated from within, so she could pull off anything.” And, Gwyneth Paltrow, herself a style icon, couldn’t commit to a single fashion influence: “I take inspiration from a lot of different sources.” No doubt the well-dressed crowd gave her a few ideas.
