Transformation

Christina Aguilera refuses to be typecast. Just when the public had come to love her baby blond looks, the Irish-Ecuadorian singer stopped playing Barbie and defiantly embraced cornrows and a gaggle of hair colors—even granny gray with black lowlights. Hairstylist Peter Savic, who often transforms her with hairpieces, says, "She's not trying to please anyone." (Well, with her latest looks, maybe at least husband Jordan Bratman.) "Christina is in love, so she softened it up," Savic says of her current Old Hollywood platinum locks. And, although she loves to experiment, she's not above a signature product or two. As she says, "Whenever I'm in the studio, even if I'm wearing sweatpants, I have my red lipstick on."

1985: "I've always been a girlie girl," Aguilera told InStyle of her youth. "I used to sit at my mom's vanity and play with her perfume and lipstick. I've had a love affair with makeup since Day 1."
