There's nothing timid about Demi Moore: She has gone bald (for G.I. Jane, posed nude while pregnant and even uploaded gap-toothed photos of herself in the dentist chair onto Twitter. And though some of her looks have been criticized by the press (her 1989 self-designed Oscar dress taking a particularly heavy hit), fans admire her risk-taking. Instead of sticking with the spunky, short Ghost 'do, for example, she tried new styles, branching out to her current-day long locks. Hairstylist Sally Hershberger says, "Demi can carry off very short or very long hair." That's because her features—big brown eyes and high cheekbones—are "perfect," adds her makeup artist, Jo Strettell. And, unlike her hairstyles, seemingly changeless.

Then known as Demetria Guynes, Moore left high school to pursue an acting career founded on: "guts and on-the-job training."
