Also in 2006, Jewel took a sleigh ride with Santa in New York’s Herald Square for MasterCard’s Home for the Holidays sweepstakes. The singer kicked off the contest—which features two houses as its prizes—with an acoustic concert. The white-clad Alaskan sang her hits on a dais of faux snow (the day being too unseasonably warm to provide the real thing); she was backed by a string section and a Christmas tree.
