Princess Madeleine of Sweden and British-American businessman Christopher O'Neill became engaged to marry in October 2012, after the standardized formal process for permission was complete. O'Neill asked His Majesty the King of Sweden for his consent first, and His Majesty in turn requested the Swedish Government's approval.
