WHY WE LOVE IT Nicole Richie's colorist, George Papanikolas, confessed that his client's new shade wasn't exactly an overnight impulse. "We have gradually been going darker over the last few monthsfrom blonde, to dark ash blonde, then brown with golden tips and finally this rich sable brown," he says. The benefit of taking it slow (besides not frying your strands)? "We did this gradual transition so we could play with different looks," says Papanikolas.
