In New York City, Heidi Klum (in Michael Kors) and Michael Kors were among the boldface names who celebrated the arrival of Fashion Week while getting the message out about AIDS awareness at amfAR's 12th annual New York Gala, co-sponsored by MAC Cosmetics. After placing their bids during one of amfAR's legendary auctions, the charitable crowd was moved by musical performances that ranged from the sacred (Meryl Streep) to the profane (Lady Gaga) and a memorable tribute to longtime amfAR advocate Natasha Richardson, who passed away last March. "I wasn't even supposed to be here, but amfAR called so I said yes!" said Klum of her unscheduled appearance. "I'm glad that I can give back by attending events like this, talking about an issue and helping to raise some money."
