Gala for the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Exhibition: AngloMania
Brittania certainly ruled on May 1 at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, where stars like
Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and
Charlize Theron celebrated 30 years of British fashion at the Costume Institute gala. Nearly 700 guests flocked to the museum, which was dressed by designer David E. Monn to look like an English Garden, complete with a 30-foot apple tree above the information desk and a grand staircase covered in moss to resemble a rolling Scottish hillside. “Everyone wanted to take their shoes off and run around!” Monn says. After dining on smoked salmon and lamb—a menu inspired by British chef Jamie Oliver and prepared by celebrity catering service Glorious Food—partygoers like
Kate Moss and
Jennifer Lopez watched a performance from
Billy Elliot, with music composed by Elton John. The evening ended in true English style, with tea cakes. Good thing there was plenty of dancing, or everyone might have left busting out of their bespoke dresses.
