JUST BE-CAUSE Tuesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 17, 2005. The season of giving began this week with star-studded charity events on both coasts. First, Paul and Heather Mills McCartney hosted the Adopt-a-Minefield gala at the Beverly Hilton hotel in L.A. Two days later, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones were honored at a benefit for the Christopher Reeve Foundation at the Marriott Marquis N.Y.C.
GOODWILL GUESTS Jay Leno, the emcee at McCartney's fundraiser, led an auction among such guests as Pamela Anderson and Alec Baldwin, which raised more than $3 million for anti-land mine programs. At the Reeve ball, Uma Thurman and Robin Williams participated in a raffle of items from Hermés, among others, and donated more than $2 million toward research for spinal-cord injuries.
JOIN THE CLUB Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who share Reeve's birthday (Sept. 25), also share his dedication. Says Douglas, "I was inspired by his lust for life."
DO GOOD Support land mine clearance and bid on things like a James Taylor-autographed guitar at
